Description

Located out of our Cochrane office, the Sr. Engineer, Rotating Equipment is a member of the NGL Extraction Engineering Team at the Cochrane Extraction Plant (CEP).  The role will report to the Manager, CEP Engineering. The Sr. Engineer, Rotating Equipment will: 

 

  • Provide Engineering consistent with the expectations in the IPL Professional Practice Management Plan to address modification, reliability, and integrity requirements at the Cochrane Extraction Plant. 
  • Rotating Equipment SME for CEP, Pioneer 1 and Pioneer 2.  
  • Member of the CEP Emergency Management Team.  

 

The successful candidate will work closely with the CEP engineering, maintenance and operations departments to accurately track project progress from conception to completion

Key Activities and Responsibilities

Core Portfolio – Rotating Equipment 

  • Maintain accurate long-term service plans for all plant major rotating equipment (>=1000 hp).  This includes, but is not limited to,  generating overhaul scopes, cost estimates, job plans, outside service plans, and schedules for major overhauls.
  • Manage major overhauls to ensure equipment is restored to specifications within the scheduled time. Ensure the appropriate reports and equipment history are filed and maintained.
  • Develop and coordinate a program of equipment performance and condition monitoring to track changes and optimize equipment life and reliability.  Regularly report findings and recommendations in an equipment health status report.
  • Identify and maintain plant spares as they relate to major rotating equipment. Ensure refurbishment parts are returned to original specifications in a timely fashion and stored appropriately until needed.  Ensure equipment inventory is up to date and accurate.
  • Develop and maintain an obsolescence and critical sparing program/strategy for major rotating equipment.  
  • Contribute to plant O&M and capital budgets with rotating equipment items as appropriate.  Maintain the 10-year rotating equipment overhaul plan along with other long-term plans as appropriate.
  • Maintain an accurate account of the service hours of major equipment, as it relates to overhaul planning and condition monitoring.
  • Maintain information such as data books, compressor curves, service reports, etc for major rotating equipment.  
  • Identify opportunities for reliability, performance, and efficiency improvements on rotating equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and continually improve preventive maintenance programs for rotating equipment.  

 

Project Management 

  • Complete projects as assigned, ensuring all projects are executed safely, with minimal environmental impact, in compliance with all rules, regulations and standards, on budget, on time, operationally successful and in line with the business objectives.
  • Projects are executed in accordance with Inter Pipeline’s PD&I, MOC and other corporate standards (Teamwork, Maximo, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with the APEGA Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
  • Prioritize and ensure all projects are economically justified with proper authorization.   

 

CEP Plant Operations and Maintenance Support 

  • Lead the analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of mechanical/rotating equipment problems and issues together with plant teams.
  • Lead investigations into rotating equipment failures and complete reports and recommendations on preventative measures.
  • Interface with engineering, service, and vendor companies on rotating equipment issues and obtain the information required to support and resolve the issues at hand.
  • Maintain vendor and industry contacts to support the service of the plant’s equipment.

 

Employee Development 

  • Mentor and coach plant employees by setting a positive tone for communication and collaboration within internal and external departments.  Advance the fundamentals of mechanical/rotating equipment matters to improve the knowledge at site and develop an appreciation for good practices as they relate to this equipment.
  • Assist the Maintenance Department in broadening their abilities to deal with rotating equipment matters and develop their overall knowledge and experience.

Education, Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of industry experience with direct experience with rotating equipment including pumps, turbines, and compressors in a plant environment.   
  • Engineering degree with preferred additional coursework related to project management. 
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA or working towards professional registration in the near future
  • Strong communications skills, including the ability to exchange information, ideas, and thoughts effectively across multidisciplinary groups. 

Hours

This is a full-time role located at our Cochrane Extraction plant  

 

40 hours per week
