Description
Inter Pipeline is seeking a safety-focused and motivated Operations Technician to join our team at the Pioneer 2 facility. This role will report into the Supervisor, Operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment, including process monitoring, equipment start-ups and shutdowns, troubleshooting, and supporting maintenance activities.
This role requires a proactive individual who can respond effectively to operational challenges, contribute to process optimization, and uphold the highest standards of safety, housekeeping, and environmental stewardship. Working a 7-on/7-off rotation of 12-hour day and night shifts, the successful candidate will bring strong operational experience, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence in a dynamic plant environment.
Candidates must reside in the Fort McMurray area, as FIFO, relocation assistance and commuter arrangements are not available for this position.
Key Activities and Responsibilities
• Carries out routine operating procedures and duties including starting and shutting down of equipment as required, process monitoring and recording
• Ensure all Operational duties are performed according to Inter Pipeline procedures/policies/standards and guidelines.
• Recognizes and avoids inappropriate risk – able to consider the consequence and impact before acting.
• Contributes to ensure plant process conditions are optimized to enhance plant efficiencies.
• Take immediate and decisive action during an emergency, Plant shut down, equipment failure or process deviation.
• Performs assigned activities such as; procedure development, equipment preparations and planning are completed to support maintenance activities and timelines.
• Assists in maintenance activities as required/directed by preparing equipment operationally, maintaining and /or repairing of equipment and plant systems.
• Provide input and completes assigned activities from Operations Coordinator or Senior Operator.
• Aid in troubleshooting and resolving issues pertaining to the operation.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation where required.
• Respond to call outs as required to support Operational shift needs.
• Ensures “housekeeping” in area of responsibility is maintained to a level acceptable to the facility including obstruction, oil wiping and cleanliness.
Education, Skills and Experience
• 5+ years of plant operations experience with full working knowledge of plant equipment and safety procedures
• Ideal candidate will be ABSA certified 4th or 3rd Class Power Engineer
• Safety certifications- H2S alive, WHMIS and TDG are an asset
• Strong teamwork and communication skills a must
• Good organization skills, proven strong work ethic and proficient computer skills required
Hours
Located out of our Pioneer 2 site, based 65 minutes north of Ft McMurray, this position will work a 12-hour shift, days/nights and will be a 7 on 7 off rotation. Candidates must reside in the Fort McMurray area, as FIFO, relocation assistance and commuter arrangements are not available for this position.
As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, drivers abstract and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
The successful candidate must have the willingness and ability to perform all physical requirements of the position including but not limited to walking, crouching, bending, standing, and climbing on a repetitive basis, in all weather conditions.
